Then you fit this category perfectly! You love the power of the written word and it’s eloquence; and you may like to read/write poetry or novels. You contribute to the smart people of today’s society, however you can probably be overly-critical of works.

It’s okay. I understand.

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Science/Math Nerd
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 50%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Gamer/Computer Nerd
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 44%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Musician
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 26%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Social Nerd
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 26%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Anime Nerd
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 20%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Drama Nerd
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 17%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td style=“color: black; background: white; padding: 3px;“>Artistic Nerd
<td style=“background: white; padding: 3px;“><div style=“width: 100px; background: white; border: 1px solid black; margin-top: 4px;“><div style=“width: 7%; background: red; font-size: 8px; line-height: 8px;“>

<td colspan=“2” style=“text-align: center; padding: 8px;“>What Be Your Nerd Type?

Theme Week: Books (April 4, 2007)

Your list is still freeform, but there’s a bit of a theme this week. This could require a little bit of prep time, so rather than spring it on folks that week, you’ve got time to prepare. Tell us about you and books.

Do you read more for business (research, training) or pleasure (relaxation, leisure time)?
How did your love of books begin?
What was the first book you remember reading?
What’s your favorite book (or genre, or author) and why?
Share some quotes, paragraphs, or facts from your favorite book(s).

These can be fiction, non-fiction, romance, history, philosophy, graphic novels, poetry, anything. The only stipulation is that this not be a commercial post: don’t list books you’ve written. (On the other hand, if you want to write a post about your books for another day of the week, feel free to use this format. Just don’t post it on the Iterations portal :D )

The FAQ is being built; but I do expect that people will still have questions. Post them here and I’ll add them to the FAQ.

Welcome to Iterations

I’ve been participating in Internet memes since the late 1990s, starting with (I believe) the original Friday Five. I also participated in Blogger Insider, where bloggers were paired up and then “interviewed” each other; Baker’s Dozen, where people posted twelve items and one photo about their week; Free for all Friday, where bloggers “gave out the keys” to guest posters for the day; Thursday Threesome, which gave out a different three-word phrase each week for free association; the Alchera Project, a monthly writing meme; the If Project, another regular writing meme; and at least two different image-based memes (image creation, not digital photos - this was in 2000 when digital cameras were not nearly as prevalent). The most recent was Thursday Thirteen. I’m sure there have been others along the way.

Each of these was subtly different from the others. Some had a different theme each round, some didn’t; some required visits to other peoples’ sites; almost all had a central site for getting the original code and for listing off member posts. Each of them had things that I enjoyed, things that I didn’t really use or pay attention to, things that mildly irritated me, and things that I felt were missing. So when Thursday Thirteen’s creator announced that meme’s retirement this past week, I decided to finally do something myself: put together a community that combined things that I really enjoyed.

Enter Iterations. Since each week may be just slightly different from previous weeks — variations on a theme — Iterations is an excellent name. There are two levels of participation, so that people can “stick their toe in” and see if the community works for them. Take a look around, read the content that’s already in place, ask questions, and pose suggestions.

And don’t forget to check back on Wednesday!

I haven’t quite settled on what I’ll do here; but I’ll give this a shot. Anyone’s free to read - to post, you need to be logged in.

Five Factor Values Test

Link found on Little House on Wheels

Loyalty:
You value loyalty a fair amount.
You’re loyal to your friends… to a point.
But if they cross you, you will reconsider your loyalties.
Staying true to others is important to you, but you also stay true to yourself.

Honesty:
You value honesty a fair amount.
You’re honest when you can be, but you aren’t a stickler for it.
If a little white lie will make a situation more comfortable, you’ll go for it.
In the end, you mostly care about “situational integrity.“

Generosity:
You value generosity a fair amount.
You are all about giving, as long as there’s some give and take.
Supportive and kind, you don’t mind helping out a friend in need.
But you know when you’ve given too much. You have no problem saying “no”!

Humility:
You value humility a fair amount.
You tend to be an easy going, humble person.
But occasionally your ego takes over.
You have a slight competitive streak - and the need to be the best.

Tolerance:
You value tolerance highly.
Not only do you enjoy the company of those very different from you…
You do all that you can to seek it out interesting and unique friends.
You think there are many truths in life, and you’re open to many of them.

Take the quiz yourself at http://www.blogthings.com/thefivefactorvaluestest/
